The first day of the rest of my life

Soooo, it all started yesterday, when I decided to jump on two planes to begin this new, exciting adventure!!

For those of you who are wondering… I am currently living in Saudi Arabia, to keep chasing my dreams, which now include a PhD in Marine Sciences at KAUST.

I arrived at night, everything was extremely well organized and everyone involved in welcoming me and taking me to the University were already waiting for me when I landed, they were super nice and extremely helpful!!

Ah, and the heat… It is real! Deserts can also be humid, in case you were as ignorant as me in this particular matter!!!! (for evidences, see what happens to my camera lens at the end of the next video, as soon as I go outside!!)

Despite from that, I am loving this! It has only been one entire day and it looks like I have done more things than in the whole last week… I have visited my future office - the Red Sea Research Centre and it is dreamy -, it has a huge whale shark sculpture right in the entrance, and a view to the Red Sea… It couldn't get any better, right??

The orientation leaders are super nice, and I believe I have already made friends for life! I can tell by now that the marine sciences' group is very united, and it is very cool to be around all of them. The portuguese community here is also quite big - it feels a bit like home :)

Speaking of "home", my new house is great! I share it with 2 other girls that I have just met and they were extremely nice!! The neighborhood is extremly pretty, with palm trees and a beautiful architectural style. I have my own room, closet and bathroom……. and a balcony with a sea view (what else?!, right)!! O primeiro dia do resto da minha vida

Tudo começou ontem, quando decidi entrar em dois aviões para começar esta nova, entusiasmante aventura!!

Para aqueles que ainda não sabem… Estou neste momento a viver na Arábia Saudita, para continuar a perseguir os meus sonhos, que agora incluem um PhD em Ciências Marinhas, na KAUST.

Cheguei à noite, tudo estava muito bem organizado e todas as pessoas envolvidas em receber-me e levar-me para a Universidade estavam logo à minha espera, assim que aterrei, e foram super simpáticos e prestáveis!

Ah, e o calor… É real!! Os desertos também podem ser húmidos, caso fossem tão ignorantes como eu neste aspecto!!! (a prova disso está no vídeo abaixo, vejam o que acontece às lentes da minha máquina assim que vou para a rua!!)

Apesar disso, estou a adorar! Ainda só passou um dia inteiro e parece que fiz mais coisas do que em toda a semana passada… Visitei o meu future escritório - o Centro de Investigação do Mar Vermelho e é um sonho -, tem umaa enorme escultura de um tubarão baleia logo à entrada, e vista para o Mar Vermelho… Não pode ficar melhor, certo??

Os organizadores da semana de orientação são super simpáticos, e eu acho que já fiz amigos para a vida! Mesmo em poucos dias já sei que o grupo de ciências marinhas é muito unido, e é bastante bom estar ao pé deles. A comunidade portuguesa aqui é relativamente grande - sabe um pouco a casa :)

Por falar em casa, a minha nova casa é muito fixe! Partilho-a com 2 outras raparigas que acabei de conhecer, e são muito simpáticas!! O bairro onde estou é muito bonito, tem muitas palmeiras e um estilo arquitectónico muito bonito. Tenho o meu próprio quarto, closet e casa de banho…...... e quando abro a janela do quarto tenho vista para o mar (que mais poderia pedir?!, certo?)!!
